Economists Predict Recession Will Persist Until Midyear (The Kansas City Star), Thriving, Surviving In Tough Economy (Las Vegas Review-Journal), U.S. Loses 533,000 Jobs in Biggest Drop Since 1974 (New York Times), etc.  These news headlines are no longer news anymore.  Simply put, America is struggling to make their ends meet.

Financial struggle is only part of the problem Americans have to deal with.  The worst enemy during an economic crisis is stress, which can lead to all kinds of serious illnesses.  Clinical depression is a common medical illness which affects over 17 million American men and women each year. (University of California, Berkeley)  According to Richard H. Price, Ph.D., professor of psychology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, “Unemployment can start a vicious cycle of depression, loss of personal control, decreased emotional function and a decline of physical health.” (Bilgrey, HealthAtoZ contributing writer)

According to Robert C. Chope, Ph.D., professor of counseling and coordinator of the Career Counseling Program at San Francisco State University in California, it is very important to have an optimistic attitude during a harsh time.  He said “people should pursue their own uniqueness.”  Chope advises people to start networking, be creative or consider part-time jobs as an effective method to acquire a new job.  (Bilgrey, HealthAtoZ contributing writer) “I want to help my community by providing jobs to the people in need,” said Reggie Banks, CEO of SAGII International and a local entrepreneur in Kansas City.  He continues, “we want to help the people that have their heart in what they do and never give up on their dreams.”

On Friday, January 16th, 2009, SAGII International is hosting their first event “Alien Abduction Episode I,” at Voodoo Lounge Harrah’s Casino & Hotel.  The purpose of the event is to help local communities to cope with the harsh economic crises by providing entertainment to local communities in Kansas City, Missouri and to offer job opportunities to the talented individuals.  Auditions are held through out the event.

Who Said Dreams Can’t Come True?
Local fashion designer gain the approval from New York City’s Fashion District

The fashion industry is an extremely competitive market.  “Low job turnover” and “a small number of new openings” are some of the harsh realities fashion designers across the nation must face.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 1 out of 4 fashion designers are self-employed and about two-thirds of salaried fashion designers were employed in New York or California in 2004.

Able to work with a clothing company & manufacturer located in the center of New York City’s fashion district is a dream for many designers in Kansas City.  Just ask Reggie Banks, a self-employed fashion designer, “It’s an honor, now I can really make all my dreams come true!”

Banks' recent partner William Ng brings over 20 years of experiences in the garment industry.  Ng owned four successful factories in New York City.  Sensing the coming shake-up in the apparel industry, Ng sold his factories and started manufacturing his own clothing lines.  Zora, a fashion line in women’s silk apparels attained vast success and achieved placement in major retail stores like JC Penney.  Nite Collection, a fashion line in women’s formal wears gained the acceptance across the globe especially in Africa and Canada.  Ng’s recent achievement is the launch of the licensed urban clothing lines Pepsi Apparel and Ragga Mundo. Within 18 months since inception, Ng achieved market penetration in urban markets with concentrations in the New York Metropolitan Area, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Florida.  Not only did Ng establish a strong foundation in New York City’s Fashion District, he has also solidified his manufacturing power in China. Now that Ng and Banks are partnering up, SAGII may become America’s next fashion icon.  “Together we can help other small companies grow and provide them with manufacturing and job opportunities in the fashion business,” said Banks, “we want to help the people that have their heart in what they do and never give up on their dreams.”
